Sustainable development is very hard to define. The definitions are numerous, but the simplest and clearest is the definition of the World Commission on Environment and Development (Burtland Comissison):

»Sustainable development seeks to meet the needs and aspirations of the present without compromising the ability to meet those of the future«.
(Our Common Future, Oxford University Press 1987, page 43).

Sustainability for Talum means equilibrium between society (people), environment (planet) and economic elements (success). We are developing an integrated approach to the business strategy through a sustainable business philosophy.

Why have all successes up to today been very poor?
Because there is lack of unity, decisiveness and readiness for immediate, joint and fast measures in the world community. Thus the future of human civilisation is being tested right at this moment.
