Energy supply
The electrical energy distribution
The energy supply system assures:
  • The uninterruptible energy supply for all the consumers and unified distribution systems;
  • The measurements and distribution of all types of energy (electricity, natural gas, liquefied propane, steam, hot water, technological and drinking water, water from closed cooling systems, compressed air);
  • The management and development of infrastructure, controlling all sorts and types of measuring equipment, telephone network and implementing all measurements of electrical and mechanical parameters.
The division is divided into three main departments:
  1. Gas, water, steam department controls the systems for natural gas, liquefied propane, steam, hot water, technological and drinking water, different closed cooling systems, compressed air, water pumping stations and all complementing infrastructure;
  2. The Laboratory for measurements controls around 5.000 measuring instruments, gauges and systems of all sorts and types and their calibration and verification, performs measurements of all electrical and mechanical parameters and controls the telephone network and systems;

  1. Electro-energetic:
    • The distribution, rectifying end electrical energy measurements for all consumers (pot lines, nineteen 10 kV power substations for internal power grid and all other smaller consumers);
    • Safety power supply for the most important and critical consumers using two diesel aggregates (total power 2.500 KVA) in case of total external grid blackout;
    • The maintenance activities on high voltage equipment.
    Additional activities in the Energy Supply division:
    • Total energy management system for all types of energy;
    • The executing of projects for increasing the distribution system availability;
    • The suggestions for higher efficiency in energy consumption;
    • The uniformity of measuring equipment and systems;
    • The encouragement of innovations, promoting creativity and motivation of co-workers;
    • The knowledge in experience transfer to the widest possible range of co-workers.

Electricity is the strategic "raw material" for the production of primary aluminium, and is delivered to Talum via four 110 kV power lines from the local distribution system.
