Melt treatment

First we re-melt cold aluminium in the melting furnace. The energy sources are natural gas and heat from the potline aluminium (heated at 900°C). After melting we transfer melted aluminium to the casting furnace, where we add alloying elements, according to the required chemical composition.
In order to adjust the quantity of sodium and other alkaline elements, we add refining salts into the furnace.
Melt treatment continues during the casting process. In order to reduce hydrogen, we use an in-line filter, which is connected to the furnace with launder. Into the in-line filter, through special mixers, we blow inert gas argon into flowing melt.

Argon reduces impurities, such as hydrogen, inclusions and alkaline elements from the melt. After in-line filter we use fibre cloth.
In the casting launder we add grain refiner (AlTiB wire) to reduce internal cracks and get fine-grained structure, which improves the extrudability.

Nowadays we re-melt more and more scrap material. We buy this kind of material from our billet customers and from trade companies. With such types of purchases we are strengthening our relationship with customers and are actively participating in the increasingly important process of re-melting.
