Stojan Kerbler is a great name in Slovenian photography, but also an indispensable personality at the aluminium factory in Kidričevo. He was born in 1938 in Ptujska Gora. After he finished his studies in electrical engineering in 1965, he was employed at the Alumina and Aluminium Factory, where he worked as Senior Energy Engineer up to his retirement in the year 2000.
Even in his study years Kerbler was dedicated to photography and together with some colleagues he founded the students association Fotogrupa ŠOLT, distinguished by its youthfulness and dynamics.

In 1965 Stojan Kerbler became a member of the Maribor Fotoklub.
A group of photographers from Maribor under the name Maribor Circle won recognition at the end of the sixties and beginning of the seventies with new views on the photographic medium.
They took the standpoint that the artistic creation happens at the time the photographer searches for the subject through the objective lens and ends with the release of the shutter.
